DBELLEVILLE CEMETERIES : Belleville has had cemeteries in the city limits from as early as 1789 .
In 1816 a parcel of land on Church Street was granted to be used to
house a place of worship , a rectory and a cemetery.
As other religions built their churches, and adjoining burial grounds,
space on the street ran out . In 1857 St. Michael's small plot was filled
to capacity and a new plot of land East of town was purchased and
named Mount St. Patrick . There was also St. Thomas' Curch , built in
1818 , famous for an excavation by archaeologists in 1989 of the
cemetery .
When a deadly cholera epidemic swept through the city in 1854 , the
cemeteries began to swell . Church burial records told the chilling
facts .
The 5 local cemeteries were still in operation until May 1874 . A town
bylaw was passed which stated that as a result of health concerns ,
burials were banned within the city limits . In August 1872 a group of
the cities rich and famous founded the Belleville Cemetery Company .
Aquiring a huge plot of land west of town the company hired famous
landscape designer Heinrich A Englehardt who drew up plans in July
1873 . By the following January the project was completed and a thing
of beauty . Even to this day the Belleville Cemetery is still stunning
and full of some of the city's famous people and loved ones .
DouMOUNT ST.PATRICK CEMETERY : Here are a few rather strange things I found at the burial
grounds . On one of my Spirit Walks , a customer told me
about living on Emily street as a kid and behind the
backyard fence was the cemetery .

These great pictures were sent to me from D . Russell while she was touring the Glanmore House in
May 2009 . The picture on the left shows a distinct image of a spirit woman . Could this be Hattie Phillips ??
